History


Founded in 1967, SPAQ (Société Parc-Auto du Québec)’s first contract was the management of the Chauveau parking lot (458 spaces), which is owned and used by the Québec Ministry of Public Works.

Twenty years later, in 1987, SPAQ operated 13,010 parking spaces and sales approached $8 million.

In 1992, a business plan was drawn and a restructuring took place. This is when Jean Marchand became President of the Board of Directors and Marc-A. Fortier was named Chief Executive Officer.

SPAQ then became a private enterprise,
managed by its members.


In 1994, the Board of Directors approved a technology project that included open tendering, development, testing, implementation and use over a period of more than three (3) years. Thus, TGPS/SPAQmd technology was born.

In 1995, SPAQ expanded its market and penetrated the western region, i.e. the greater Montreal area. The Société immobilière du Québec entrusted the management of its western-region parking spaces to SPAQ, which ensured its stability on the market.

In 1998, SPAQ’s TGPS/SPAQmd technology won the OCTAS award, Technology Category (200 employees and less), at the Gala of the Fédération de l’informatique du Québec.

During this same period, SPAQ stayed the course and constantly invested in TGPS/SPAQmd technology in order to satisfy the changing needs of its clientele. Therefore, by the start of the year 2000, the company managed over 30,000 parking spaces.

In 2003-2004, André Grondines (photo) was named President of the Board of Directors. In this same period, Jacques Dorval, Director of Finance and Administration, assumed the role of Acting Executive Director, supported by the other members of the executive committee.

Our ultimate goal is to remain the best firm of its kind thanks to our excellent customer service. Thus, we are able to gain the loyalty of our clients.

Effectiveness with efficiency is a major competitive element and it is ensured by staff members who are qualified, courteous and welcoming. All of our personnel take part in continuous training programs while closely collaborating in research, improvement and development of utilized technologies and systems.

SPAQ management puts the customer first! We provide the best service, at the lowest rate possible, and ensure a fair and equitable return on investment.

SPAQ currently oversees more than 38,000 parking spaces over 249 locations throughout Québec. Operations include over 29,000 monthly-rate clients and approximately 4,000,000 hourly-rate clients which generate over $33 million in sales.

SPAQ has been ISO 9001 certified since November 2001.
